Events Preview
The historic Paramount Theatre will be bringing three artists to show two sides of the documentary spectrum for the area to partake in for free.
Voicings 2007, a project directed by SCSU mass communications assistant professor Mark Eden, portrays the art and celebration of language. This is the third year Voicings has brought events to the St. Cloud area.
Last year, Voicings 2006 brought the world-renowned director of the Qatsi trilogy, Godfrey Reggio, to show all three of his films prior to speaking on the final night. At Voicings 2005, a mass amount of speakers and performances from a global landscape celebrated the art of voice.
This year, the focus of the event is purely on female documentary artists and is titled "FRONTLINES: Women Documentary Artists."
The 2005 Academy award winning co-director of "Born into Brothels" Zana Briski will be speaking about her documentary work after a screening of the film at 7 p.m. Monday night.
Two days down the realism highway, NPR's Peabody award-winning Kitchen Sisters (Davia Nelson and Nikki Silva), will be speaking about their national Public Radio series "Lost and Found Sound" and "The Sonic Memorial Project." The Sisters will be speaking at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
Both of these events are free and open to the public.
