I don't want to come off as a freak because I personally don't have a real interest in pornography.

I've seen my share of porno flicks, but I wouldn't consider watching people have sex a hobby.

In no way do I agree with child porn or the crazies who enjoy it, but if porn is accomplished using two (or more, I suppose) consenting adults there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Lots of people think porn is negative because it portrays an anti-feminist image or is detrimental to marriages because women are expected to give their husbands a certain "something-something." The porn industry is considered by some to be horribly degrading to women.

By the way, degrading is a subjective term. I find commercials in which women become orgasmic over a bar of soap to be degrading. The bottom line is that everyone has the right to define what is degrading for themselves.

The assumed degradation is often linked to the "objectification" of women, that is porn converts them into sexual objects. If taken literally, this means nothing because objects don't have sexuality, only beings do.

The term "sex object" means showing women as body parts, reducing them to physical objects. Women are as much their bodies as they are their minds. Nothing is wrong with a woman using her brain in a profession, so there should be nothing wrong with using her body. If you feel your body is your personal asset, go ahead and use it in the porn industry.

Although women in pornography appear to be willing, anti-porn feminists think that no psychologically healthy woman would agree to degrade themselves in porn.

Apparently, women are in porn because they are psychologically damaged and must be rescued from themselves.

This is a denial of a woman's right to choose anything outside the narrow corridor of choices offered by political and sexual correctness.

Pornography is a safe and healthy way for both men and women to explore their sexuality. It allows people to safely experience sexual alternatives and satisfy a healthy curiosity. The world is a dangerous place and porn can be viewed at home without any risk.

It provides sexual information that may otherwise remain undiscovered. If a couple watches porn together, it can open up new doors to an otherwise drab sexual relationship.

In some cases porn can actually save marriages because partners are able to experience variety in their sex lives without having to commit adultery.

Some people who are anti-porn claim porn leads to rape. I personally think it's totally the opposite. Weird, skuzzy men can watch their fantasies in the privacy of their homes without acting them out.

Who knows how many rapes have not been committed because men were able to satisfy their sexual urges at home.

I admit that some porn may be bizarre (think barnyard) but if the people involved are consenting, there should be no problem with it. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Another anti-porn argument people make is that children may be affected by porn if they see it accidentally. Sexuality is a part of humanity, get used to it. Lock up your guns and lock up your porn.

I remember the first time I accidentally saw a porno. I was about eight years old, and I found an unmarked video while snooping in my brother's room. I thought it was some kind of family movie, so I popped it in my VCR. The part I saw was a close-up of a giant penis thrusting into a vagina.

I took it out immediately and put it back in its hiding place. I remember it, but I don't think I was negatively affected by it.

People are sexual creatures. They have urges. Being sexual does not have to be such a taboo subject in society.
