Every DUI case a courtroom sees is a story in someone's life, a significant event that can dramatically change somebody's course of action.

The main character in that story, whose life is dramatically affected, is usually the one convicted of the DUI.

Everyone else in the courtroom is simply a minor character or a supporting role in the story.

St. Cloud resident Megan Gustafson, 21, had heard the sob stories before.
The stories in which drunken bar patrons stumble outside after a night of debauchery and into their cars, only to end the night in jail or in an accident.
This night was different, though.

My last column for the University Chronicle.

It was never my intention all year, to write an advice column, but I had the chance to listen to an inspiring presentation, so I thought I would try to give some valuable advice to the SCSU students who are sticking around campus.

I've enjoyed reading the Chronicle, and often ignore the surprising amount of mistakes and errors this year's editorial board has made.

The board's opinion in the April 24 publication had a rather astonishing claim: ".
Four score and a bazillion years ago, some grand entity took a metaphorical dump and thus existence began. And, instead of wiping, the entity decided to leave its remnants behind, and so created our wondrous solar systems and the plethora of questions, of which none of us will ever be able to answer.

Ten articles later, including many on sports, one on facebook and a few on some current events leads us to the final issue of the 2007-08 school year.
They can be seen walking from class to class, hanging outside of Sherburne and Mitchell Halls (among all dorms) and standing in line, waiting for the bus.

A couple days ago I was running a few errands with a friend of mine. As the day went on, I began to realize how technology makes life much easier.

Our first stop was at the gas station where my friend used his credit card and paid right at the pump.

Later that day we went to pick up some food for a get together and we used the self-check out line.

YES

There are more than 54,000 permit holders in the state of Minnesota. Permit holders who are students and employees can carry almost everywhere else in the state, but are restricted on the university. They have to be 21-years-old and pass a thorough background check with their sheriff signing off that they are not a danger to themselves or others.

Let the stars and stripes fly high, set off fireworks and put a full tank of gas in your SUV because today is the five year anniversary of America winning the war in Iraq.
That's right, time flies when you're having fun, and what fun we've had, huh? It's been only five short years since our noble president, donning a flight suit, flew in to the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier off the coast of California in an S-3 Viking fighter jet, letting the world know, "We've won.

Although this is an utterly appalling and unfathomable number of human deaths each day, it is believed almost all these deaths could be prevented through international aid efforts.

Do those obnoxious bars have a harsh, demeaning atmosphere overflowing with drunk tough guys hell-bent on their next female conquest?
