ST. PAUL, MN-Democrat Al Franken and former comedian on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” defeated Republican Norm Coleman in Minnesota’s senate race after a long eight-month post-election battle. Franken’s election gives 60 Senate democratic votes that are needed to overcome any Republican filibuster on legislation.
Coleman lost the November 4th election by 312 votes but contended that about 4,000 invalid absentee ballots should be counted. He later conceded at a news conference in St. Paul.
