BILLINGS, Montana- 32-year-old Colorado mechanic and ex-Marine Dustin Britton used his chain saw to fight off a mountain lion that attacked him during a camping trip in northwestern Wyoming with his wife and two toddlers.
Britton encountered the 100-pound mountain lion when he was alone cutting firewood on his campsite in the Shoshone National Forest. He attacked the lion with his chainsaw head on as it pounced at him.
Wildlife officials said Sunday that the attack is very rare and there have been only eight cases of mountain lions attacking humans in Wyoming over the last ten years.
The mountain lion was shot and killed Monday after it attacked a dog brought in to track it. The lion was four to five years old. Authorities say it was in poor physical condition and appeared to be starving.
