BEMIDJI, Minn.- An environmental group of the Leech Lake Reservation is creating a campaign against the oil pipeline that is planned to span across northern Minnesota.
Leech Lake Tribal Council signed a deal with Enbridge Energy that allows the oil pipeline to cut across the reservation. Some tribal members disagree with the petitions and are asking the council to repeal the agreement or put it up to a referendum vote.
The Indigenous Environmental Network expresses that they are worried about possible leaks. This line is being built for the increased use of oil in the U.S. Enbridge Energy will start construction in the coming weeks.
