“Kingdom Hearts 358/2” was released on September 29 exclusively for the Nintendo DS.
This game is branches off of the main “Kingdom Hearts” story, giving the player control of Roxas instead of the general main character, Sora.
For those who haven’t played the “Kingdom Hearts” games, when first seen, they may seem a little childish, since they incorporate Disney characters.
However, “Kingdom Hearts” also employs characters from the popular “Final Fantasy” series.
Still, fans of Role-Playing Games (RPGs) should gives this spectacular game a try.
The story of this game also refers to the original “Kingdom Hearts” quite a bit, so gamers are recommended to rent or purchase the earlier games to better understand the in-game references.
“Kingdom Hearts 358/2” takes place while Sora is preoccupied with a different game, so the two somewhat tie into each other.
As Roxas, the player will find themselves in a group called Organization XIII, with Roxas as the thirteenth member.
Organization XIII is a group of people called Nobodies, a shell of a person without a Heart.
The story follows Roxas during his daily adventures while he completes his missions set by the Organization with his two best friends, Axel and Xion, building up to the point where the player will once again take control of Sora in the next game.
The graphics in this game are also very well done for a DS game, with every movement smooth and defined.
The characters are detailed and the environment surrounding the characters is very detailed.
However, many of the areas are nearly exact copies of an area seen in another “Kingdom Hearts” game, which detracts from the value of the level designs a bit.
The music of “Kingdom Hearts 358/2” is also very well done, following the excellent trend set by the previous “Kingdom Hearts” games, but once again, many of the soundtracks are copied from the previous games.
The scenes of the game are completely voice-acted by very good actors, further immersing the player into the game.
The gameplay includes action flowing from one scene to the next.
The camera controls and the targeting system take a bit to get used to, but are simple to use when the player is used to them.
The combat system in this game is also very easy to pick up, especially if you have played the previous games.
There also is a co-op multiplayer game, allowing the players to play almost every mission that has been unlocked in the single-player mode, as long as all of the players have already played that mission.
For the difficulty of this game, this game can be quite difficult for even the most experienced gamers, even those who have played the previous games on the hardest difficulty, probably making this the hardest “Kingdom Hearts” game yet to be created.
This game is a wise purchase for those who have played the previous “Kingdom Hearts” games, since it tells a completely new story which hasn’t been seen at all in the “Kingdom Hearts” world.
With a high level of designs and graphics, this game is a must for the DS. But, for those who haven’t played any of the previous “Kingdom Hearts” games, this game refers back to the previous ones often, so it probably would confuse people that are new to the series.
