Saturday showers may have dampened the soil around campus, but it did not dampen the spirits of those involved in the annual Earth Day Cleanup.

This year's volunteers ventured around campus cleaning trash in local neighborhoods, as well as Barden Park.

Earth Day, which is technically April 22, is a day to remember to take care of the environment and to increase awareness of environmental issues.

Volunteers found homemade spears, a window screen, puzzle pieces and game chips, along with other typical garbage.

The event was sponsored by the SCSU Volunteer Connection.
