With less than two weeks until the May 12 commencement ceremonies, there are several things those completing their education tenure may not know.
Prior to commencement, students must complete a series of tasks to ensure a smooth graduation day.
Students must register for the commencement ceremony. This can be completed by logging on to the SCSU Web site and going to the commencement page.
SCSU's commencement coordinator Susan Prout said this is essential for students to complete in order to participate in the ceremony.
"(Students must register) for our planning purposes, so we know they're going to be there, so there is a chair for them, so we know how many guests to expect and so that we'll have a card ready for them when they arrive," she said.
Aside from this, Prout said registering will get students' names on an e-mail list which provides additional information and deadlines leading up to the ceremony.
Another important task to complete prior to commencement is purchasing a cap and gown. These are available until May 12 and can be purchased at the Husky BookStore.
Along with the cap and gown, many students may be qualified to graduate with honors, which are signified by a different color tassel. Prout said this information can be obtained at the bookstore.
"The bookstore has a list of all students who are graduating with honors by category," she said. "Depending on what honor chord you qualify for, they have you on a list over there."
Aside from the ceremony, there are also things students need to do to ensure their graduation goes without a hitch.
Another thing graduating students must do is enter a diploma address. This can be done on the registration page of the SCSU Web site. Entering an address ensures arrival of a student's diploma.
"We can not mail a diploma to a student unless we have a diploma address entered by the students," Rita Moore, assistant registrar of records and registrations said.
