They either came up with the dumbest possible name on the planet, or it's the most ingenious, memorable, goofy moniker they could drum up.
Either way, Team Tiger Awesome (TTA) are crafting some of the most viewed short films on the Internet.
Their goofy flicks range from the simple and clever idea of creating an audio commentary to the old NES game "Contra," an odd reaction to ordering the wrong brand of pizza in "Dude...Pizza," or the outrageous send-up of Renny Harlin's adrenaline infused blockbusters with the high-octane chase adventure "Curly Fries."
The TTA boys have their work cut out for them and have managed to parlay the viral success of their shorts into higher profile work. Kudos, you silly boys, kudos.
Clint Gage, Nick Mundy and Michael Truly, childhood friends, make up the outfit that is Team Tiger Awesome.
"Initially, it started off as a way so we could hone our respective skills as writers, directors, actors, etc., and maybe the off chance it could lead to something, but I never thought it would be this big, this fast," Mundy said.
The group sat around and pitched ideas to each other until something resonated, then they'd get the ball rolling on whatever short film they'd concocted.
The results have been outstanding. Their short "28 Day Slater," a riff on Mario Lopez and his defining role as A.C. Slater on "Saved By The Bell," has had nearly 150,000 hits on YouTube alone.
Their "Dude...Pizza" short made it on to Maury Povich's daytime talk show.
"That's got to be the most surreal thing to happen to us so far. One of their producers e-mailed us and wanted to put "Dude...Pizza" on the show for a best of the Internet type of thing. And we were like, sure, because we are ego maniacs and like seeing ourselves as much as possible," Mundy said. "Then we were watching it and this New York chick (from 'Flavor Of Love' on VH1) (we had no idea who the hell she was) is introducing our short with Maury f--kin Povich. I was just like, 'Wow, this is odd.'"
