Volleyball

SCSU volleyball (5-6) went .500 with a 2-2 record at the Flyer Festival in Romeoville, Ill. They beat St. Joseph's 3-1 (30-22, 30-25, 26-30, 30-24) and then defeated St. Francis in three straight games (30-24, 30-23, 30-22) then again Aug. 31.

They dropped a hard fought match against Southern Indiana in five games (30-26, 19-30, 30-24, 28-30, 12-15) and got swept by UW-Parkside (27-30, 23-30, 19-30) Sept. 1.

Junior outside hitter Emily Baldwin was named to the All-Tournament team with an impressive stat line of 68 kills, 47 digs and three serving aces.

On Sept. 4, they traveled to No. 3 ranked Concordia-St. Paul (9-0), who have only dropped two games all season. SCSU found a way to win game three, but that was all they could muster. SCSU lost 3-1 (19-30, 17-30, 30-28, 13-30).

Baldwin attempted a career high 62 attack attempts in the four games. First-year setter Jennifer Waterman finished with 34 set assists, while junior defensive specialist Andreana Pieper added to the match high 26 defensive digs.

The next test for volleyball as they try to get back to .500 will be against Bemidji State at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Halenbeck Hall.

Soccer

SCSU soccer has a 2-1 overall record this season. Last game against Wayne State was canceled due to a skin condition the Wayne State team had.

Junior midfielder Ashley Harold notched her first goal of the season and hit four shots on net in a 2-1 victory over Northwest Missouri State. Her hustle earned her NCC Offensive Player of the Week.

Not to be outdone, sophomore goaltender Elizabeth Kelly, last year's Freshman of the Year in the NCC, earned Defensive Player of the Week with her efforts in goal, stopping seven shots.

Sophomore Lisa Drossart scored her first career goal in the 85th minute for the game winner.

The Huskies got the first win of the season against Southwest Minnesota State at Husky Stadium Aug. 26. Lindsay Sather and Jessica Pafko scored their first career goals for SCSU.

Jessie Cody added a goal and an assist while Chelsey Scheller added the other.

Play will resume for the soccer team at a 5 p.m. match Sept. 6 at Bemidji State.
