GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- Matt Smolenski, 25, rescued a dog while riding his surfboard near a pier. Smolenski said the dog stood near the end of the pier barking at the water. Eventually, the dog was swept off the pier into Lake Michigan.
Smolenski took action by grabbing the dog while surfing waves head-on, finally making it back to shore and saving the dog's life.
