SCSU parking is total chaos

There are many students whose nerves become twitchy while coming to and leaving campus.

They probably own cars and drive to SCSU every day and know the life-risking adventure that is the traffic and parking at our fine college.

Finding a spot to park can drive someone to the point of babbling crazily to themselves.

The mile radius around SCSU is crammed with bumper-to-bumper parking.

There are cars honking at dazed students wandering aimlessly after finding a spot.

There is also the fear of seeing the little yellow ticket neatly placed behind the windshield wiper after class for having their vehicle slightly over the "No Parking Past This Point" sign.

Then there is the 20 mile hike from your car to campus, which if not timed properly, could make one late for class.

Of course, this allows students to get some exercise, but there are days when people are not in the mood.

If that isn't bad enough, the drive out can be, at times, a life and death situation.

Tired students with sleepy eyes take chances that would impress a stunt person.

Parked cars are rammed for boxing in some vehicle whose only option to escape is to dent the cars in front and behind it.

The line between a demolition derby and student parking can often blur on busy days.

Of course, students could pay the outrageous prices SCSU charges to park 20 feet closer to campus. Since most choose not to pay this breathtaking sum of cash, SCSU looks like a massive car dealership.

What is the answer that will save us from this daily headache?

I doubt the parking ramp will be it.

Students need a couple free parking lots. The insane amount of money paid in tuition each semester could be used for this.

But it won't.

There is always the pay lots, but once again, the nervous agitation of that little yellow ticket looms in the back of your head, counting down the time left on what was paid.

Indeed, this is a nightmare shared by a lot of the student body.

If enough people get together and think through the options, maybe one day driving to and from SCSU will not be a nerve shattering experience.
