Issue date: 9/17/07 Section: Intermission
The front section of the Paramount Theater's stage in downtown St. Cloud was removed Friday night for the show headliner Trampled by Turtles (TBT) along with The Bitter Spills.

The stage normally shelters the pit orchestra, but this act required as much room in front of the stage as possible.

The show was a part of the Trampled by Turtles nearly nationwide tour ranging from New York to Colorado. TBT originates from Duluth, Minn. and has a dedicated fan base across the state including St. Cloud.

A large crowd of nearly 100 people formed in front of the stage to dance and sing along with the music. Nearly 100 more guests watched from their seats.

The Paramount Theater had an elegant, artistic atmosphere that supported TBT's style of music, providing great acoustics.

TBT delivered their alternative bluegrass set fans are used to hearing at music festivals across the state.

Band members include Dave Simonett (guitar), Erik Berry (mandolin), Tim Saxhaug (bass), Dave Carroll (banjo) and guest player Ryan Young (fiddle).

With acoustic guitars, a mandolin, a banjo and a fiddle, TBT has the ability to go from a feet stamping, upbeat, bluegrass song to a slow, soothing ballad. It was a perfect mix for the St. Cloud crowd.

The upbeat songs kept the energy high and people dancing. The slower ones made for time to relax and enjoy the music.

"As soon as Trampled by Turtles starts playing you feel the energy flow throughout the crowd," said Kirissa Grams, art student from SCSU and fan of TBT. "You never are able to be a part of something quite as exciting as when you get to dance and freak out with a crowd of people that enjoy Trampled by Turtles as much as St. Cloud does."

TBT featured songs from their third studio album titled "Trouble." From foot-trampling songs such as "Never Again," "Arming of Infants" and "Ceiling Slide" along to the slow melodies of songs such as the title track "Trouble," the crowd was entertained.
