It's not everyday that opinions fly amidst a haze of recognition for a job well-done, but one of the editorial board members recently had the opportunity to award such recognition after receiving help from a staff member at the Miller Center.

A certain history project called for students to locate 18th Century newspapers, which required the use of the library's microfilm, and one librarian in particular, Jennifer Quinlan, took the time to help a thoroughly confused student.

She dropped everything she was doing and threw herself into the task of helping in whatever ways she knew how.

There may be several common misconceptions about librarians' attitudes and mannerisms, but Quinlan defied them all. She seemed eager to help, and didn't stop working until every question had been answered.

While some may say it was part of her job to help a student asking for assistance, the manner in which that help was given was what truly made the difference.

The help being offered was genuine, and she surely did not know the person she was helping just so happened to be the editor-in-chief of the college newspaper.

For her enthusiastic help and devotion to her job, this editorial board would like to take the time to thank Quinlan for a job well done.

While there are only so many library workers to help the hundreds of students who use the facility on a daily basis, others should be encouraged to look up to the example set by their fellow co-worker.

Not only might it brighten their day, but it may also go a long way toward making a student's day that much easier, as well.
