SEC dominates college football

They say that in the south, football is religion.

While football may, in reality, be a close second to religion, football is a strong way of life.

In the south, the SEC conference reigns supreme, as it has continually had the edge over any other major conference in all of college football.

While many press the Big Ten, it is evident this season, with the many upsets and routine struggles with mid-major, non-conference foes, that it is weak. Not to mention last year's Florida rout over the supposed best team in the nation, Ohio State.

The Big 12 has one superpower, the Oklahoma Sooners, who routinely beat up on conference weaklings Baylor, Colorado and Kansas.

Texas, Nebraska and Mizzou made a case for a mid-level squad, but as USC's onslaught of Nebraska proved, it is uncertain how powerful the top of the Big 12 is.

The Pac-10 is in the same regard, with USC the only certain power, while Oregon and Cal are relative unknowns.

The ACC has no clear-cut leader, with Virginia Tech the supposed top team, yet they were dominated in Baton Rouge versus LSU. Florida State, Miami and last year's ACC champion Wake Forest have been relative disappointments in a conference that is losing recruiting power.

The Big East, which so far has been led by a pretty solid West Virginia team, has also taken a step back. With Brian Brohm returning, Louisville was supposed to be a national powerhouse. But they have lost two straight games to SEC surprise Kentucky and Syracuse.

Notre Dame has also brought shame to their name, starting out 0-4 for the first time in school history. Their offensive and defensive squads have been atrocious and made heavily-recruited freshman QB Jimmy Claussen look like an idiot for guaranteeing four national titles.

With all the other conferences struggling, the SEC is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

Continually, teams of this conference lose respect because the teams all work to beat up on each other.
