Garvey improvements create "home" feeling

Going to school at St. Cloud is a tricky proposition.
There is the cold, for one. It gets to the point where, if you go outside for more than five minutes, chances are good you'll be found in March when the snow thaws. And there is the off-chance of being run over by some bad driver from Illinois.
However, probably one of the chanciest things that, at least in the past, have haunted students, is Garvey.
Combining Old World recipes with bargain basement materials, the food at the campus cafeteria has always been entertaining, to say the least.
One student interviewed, who wishes to remain nameless, expressed the opinion that the food on campus over the past several years has been steadily worsening, sinking deeper into the high school cafeteria-esque hole of basic cafeteria food.
Then, this year started. Amid heightened expectations, owing to the build-up of the "new" Garvey's charms by a friend of mine, finally I was able to try it for myself.
I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at the changes that have occurred.
For one, the line system has improved dramatically. No more waiting for several months to get several pieces of cornbread.
This year, the serving areas seem to move students in the right direction, so lines don't intersect.
To get another viewpoint, I spoke to Heather Smith, an Academic Resource Mentor at SCSU.
As to what she thought about the re-designed Garvey versus last year, she said, "It is a lot nicer and very modern. It makes school a little more enjoyable to know the cafeteria is a comfortable place to be."
I asked her to elaborate a bit more on what she meant by comfortable. She replied, "It doesn't feel dirty and old. It feels a little like home."
Glowing terms indeed. It seems the overall remarks as to this year's redesigned building are very much positive.
Here's to a wonderful new school year with a newly remodeled building.
