Pat Dolan came into SCSU with the notion to change.

The new Husky baseball coach replaced long-tenured Denny Lorsung in an attempt to build up the program to an elite status and escape its current state of subpar play.

"(I) have faith that Pat Dolan is the right person to build on the foundation established by Denny Lorsung," athletic director Morris Kurtz said of the new coach in a press release. "Pat will recruit student-athletes that excel in the classroom and on the playing field, and he will return our baseball program to a level of prominence."

Dolan has already begun work on revamping the program and retooling the team's operation.

"We have got to get better as a baseball team, and we are doing all we can to do that," Nolan said.

Dolan has done more than just add a flux of new players, as he has helped give the operations a makeover and has led the team to have a stronger impact in the community.

"Being active in the community is important to us, and we are doing all that we can to be a better part," Dolan said.

The team has begun a new off-season evaluation project, while getting live on-the-diamond action involved.

"We have been practicing for four hours a day, and we know how important the fundamentals are, but nothing can substitute for live game action," Dolan said.

All week and leading into the weekend, the team will have a plethora of team sponsored activities to go along with SCSU Family, Friends and Alumni Weekend.

"We are trying to get everything done in one big weekend," Dolan said.

One of the main projects is the Red/Black World Series, which features the Husky ballplayers playing a series scrimmage against each other.

"We play a best out of seven series, and it is really the highlight of our fall," Dolan said. "Plus, the kids love the game situations; it is a nice escape from the routines of practice."

Nolan's assistants are getting a chance go flaunt their skills, with the Red Team coached by Pete Pratt and Jason Brueske, and the Black Team coached by fellow assistant coaches Ken Picha and Kyle Johnson.
