Although Homecoming festivities are only a week long, a lot of planning goes into preparation. This year, there are 30 candidates running for Homecoming elections, with ages ranging from first-year to fifth-year students.

Homecoming week runs from Oct. 8 through Oct. 14.

The University Program Board (UPB) special events coordinator Rachel Medina went to great lengths to make sure everything would come together smoothly.

"It takes a lot of work to get ready for Homecoming. We start planning almost as soon as this one is over," Medina said. "Last year's committee planned a lot, and now I am somewhat carrying out their plans, as well as my own."

The Homecoming activities range from hula hoop contests to a luau party and coronation. With almost 40 activities planned, the UPB had their work cut out from the beginning.

"There are way more people involved than you would think. We have a campus-wide committee that meets about once a month, and we hope to continue that through the year. I just spent seven hours in the office today getting stuff ready with my adviser and a few committee members, and I'm sure I will live in the UPB office this next week," Medina said.

Medina hopes to see a great deal of participation in the activities campus-wide.

"There's so much to do throughout the week and everyone has put a lot of work into their events," Medina said. "I know it will definitely be a fun and chaotic week, but I can't wait to see everything come together and the overall outcome."
