It's the most wonderful time of the year. There should be a theme song for October and the festival it is for sports fans.
The American version of Oktoberfest comes with the excitement of baseball playoffs and the World Series, the NFL is just getting interesting and hockey begins with a new season for the up and coming Minnesota Wild.
The NBA also gets underway at the end of the month with thousands of new Celtics fans like me, hoping KG and Ray Allen can team up with Paul Pierce for a championship in Boston.
Garnett has pretty much been the Timberwolves by himself the past 12 years since he was drafted fifth overall in 1995. I can't think of a single player who hasn't won a championship yet who deserves to win one more than he does.
A class act who should be praised by all Wolves fans when he returns to play them Feb. 8 at the Target Center. And yes, I did look that up; why else would I want to go see our God-awful team play?
The Wild, on the other hand, are definitely a team worth following this year. They will be competing for their first division title this year.
Have you ever been to the Xcel Energy Center to watch a game? It's one of the most electrifying events you will ever witness. When the horn goes on a goal scored, the place erupts louder than anything I've heard.
If superstar Marian Gaborik can stay healthy, they should have one of the best records in the Western Conference.
Last year, they went 33-9-6 in games with him in the lineup, and 15-17-2 without. Eighty-two games with Gaborik healthy equals MVP candidate.
There are no sort of MVP candidates on the Vikings; however, there is a rookie of the year nominee in Adrian "All Day" Peterson. He has been the one single reason to watch the stagnant Vikings offense. It's becoming offensive to watch this offense, especially having 4-0 Packers fans rubbing it in your face.
Maybe giving him the ball more than 12 times a game like they did last week will keep me from switching to another game on TV every time they're on offense. He was recognized as the NFL's "Offensive Rookie of the Month" in September.
Nothing is better right now than Major League Baseball's playoffs, though.
Unfortunately, our beloved Twins could not pull off the miracle comeback like they did last year, but this gives the opportunity to watch the magic that is the run to the World Series as unbiased fans.
Stories of destiny unfold, and stories are told for years and years to come. The Rockies have won 14 of the past 15 games just to get in the playoffs, including a 13-inning, one game playoff against the San Diego Padres last Monday.
'Tis the season to be jolly, isn't it? Happy holidays everyone.
