It's rare to find someone who will go above and beyond the call of duty. It's even rarer to find that in the typical college environment, where basically everyone is struggling to get ahead.
Don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with sticking to your guns in college. It's hard enough to pass your own classes without tutoring someone else. It's hard enough to do your own job without catering to the special whims of students.
That's what makes Stephanie Tewes so special. Stephanie is one of those who went above and beyond what she needed to do.
Recently, I went to a pizza party at Halenbeck Hall. I had some pizza, talked to a few friends and walked to work. Of course, once I got there, I discovered the absence of something rather important. My cell phone. I've lost my phone many times before, (a cab, at a class, etc), so I knew the drill.
I called the Campus Rec office in Halenbeck and asked them to see if it was around. Stephanie answered the phone, and instantly went over to the pizza party, found my phone and brought it back to the desk.
I would have been perfectly happy grabbing it after class the next day, but Stephanie found out where and how long I was working, and then at the end of her shift, walked to the library and handed the phone to me at my desk.
It's been said many times that it takes all kinds to make a world.
Well, if that is true, than Stephanie is truly unique. My eternal gratitude goes to her selfless behavior. The next time I am faced with a similar situation, I will do my best to approach it as she did for me.
