Henry disgraces NFL with more violations

Issue date: 10/8/07 Section: Sports
There are some people in sports that just do not make any sense.

Twenty-eight-year-old running back Travis Henry is one of them.

Henry this past week became a repeat violator of the NFL's substance abuse policy, sending his best statistical season to date and his team's hope up in smoke.

You would have thought his four-game suspension for the same offense in 2005 would have set him straight. Possibly the $22.5 million he got this off-season would have made him change his ways.

But no, Henry would not let the NFL change him and his desire to get high.

Maybe, it was just because his whizinator was on back order.

Whatever it is, Henry has really screwed over his community, teammates, coaches and fantasy football owners.

As Henry was brought into Denver this off-season, he was expected to carry the Broncos back to the playoffs.

Upon his signing, he instantly entered the dreams of fantasy football geeks due to his skill behind an offensive line that made Olandis Gary a 1,000-yard rusher.

Henry did exactly what was expected and more as he is the NFL's leading rusher so far.

His Broncos are just 2-2 on the year, but they reside in first place in the AFC West and are improving as the season progresses.

Now, Henry has put his team's season in jeopardy and is assuring fans that no matter what the harsh rules commissioner Roger Godell puts into place, the NFL's image is not going to get better.

This all comes in a season where Terrell Owens has been muted and Randy Moss feels like playing.

It has been a new batch of guys looking to destroy the NFL name, all taking advantage of their status in society.

With the average career length in the NFL at about four years, it is amazing that players will throw it all away by not staying clean.

Nobody has to have judgement of before or after their NFL career, but when they are in the league, as community role models and icons of millions, they should be able to tough it out.
