Football
The SCSU football team ended its nine-quarter scoring drought on the first drive of the game, but it was not enough, as Western Washington defeated the Huskies 18-15 Saturday afternoon in Bellingham, Wash.
The Huskies rushing attack powered through with 206 total yards on the ground.
Junior running back Michael Graham ran for 172 yards and a touchdown.
Junior quarterback Jon Quesnel went 10-for-23 with 101 yards and one touchdown. He also threw two interceptions.
Leading receptions for the Huskies was redshirt freshman Fred Williams with three catches for 31 yards.
Junior wide receiver Cody Rysewyk had only one reception in the game, but it was good for a nine-yard touchdown.
The game was in favor of the Huskies early as the team jumped to a 13-0 lead.
Western Washington battled back and ended up knotting the game at 15.
Western Washington's place kicker had four field goals in the game, including the 35-yard game winner with :21 seconds left in the game.
The Huskies committed four turnovers, all in the second half. The biggest one came when Williams fumbled at the Western Washington 20-yard line with six seconds left to go in the game.
Junior Bryce Kieffer led the Huskies defensively with nine tackles.
Junior Ryan Kees had two of the Huskies seven sacks.
Cross Country
The SCSU cross country team competed in the Minnesota State open Saturday at the Land of Memories Park in Mankato.
Dan Allen led the men's team with a 15th place finish, completing the 6K run in 21:23. Emily Winans placed ninth in the 4K run, finishing with a time of 16:42.
Andrea Boden crossed the finish line just three places behind Winans in 12th with a time of 17:19. Paula Marozas finished 18th with a time of 17:54.
Other notables for the men include Hady Cherif coming in 16th place (21:24), Lucas Pederson finished with a time of 22:36 seconds, while Tim Moes finished with a time of 24:36.
The cross country teams are off until the North Central Conference Championships Oct. 20 in Duluth.
