After losing three straight conference games by a combined score of 8-1, the SCSU women's soccer team needed better efforts on both ends of the field if they wanted to get back on track.

They got just that Friday evening at Husky Stadium, where the Huskies rode a strong collective effort offensively and defensively to a 3-1 victory over North Dakota. The three goals represented an offensive coming-out party for the Huskies, who scored only two goals in their previous six games.

"This is huge for us, it gets us out of the slump we've been in," said junior midfielder Jessie Cody, who scored one of the three goals for the Huskies. "Our forwards have really been getting frustrated lately, but they've been working hard, and we finally got it down today."

The story of the Huskies offense was the play of sophomore Chelsey Scheller and freshman Lindsey Sather. The two forwards each had a goal and an assist as they consistently found seams to work with in North Dakota's defense.

Scheller got the scoring started by getting behind her defender off a pass for her second goal of the season with 29:42 elapsed. Sather set Scheller up for the score with a pinpoint lead pass for her first assist of the season.

Scheller would return the favor to Sather in the second half of play, threading a pass from the corner, which allowed Sather to sprint around her defender for her second goal of the season with 55:21 elapsed. The assist was Scheller's second of the season.

Head coach Stephanie McGuinness believes Friday's performance gave an indication about how well Sather and Scheller work together on offense.

"They're both very smart players who work really hard and feed off each other's strengths," McGuinness said. "Lindsey's a very fast player, and Chelsey always knows where Lindsey's going to be so she can get her the ball. It was outstanding as a coach to watch that combination happen twice in opposite ways tonight."

Cody capped off the scoring for the Huskies, sneaking in a penalty kick off a deflection for her second goal of the season with 76:49 elapsed.

In addition to the three goals, SCSU had several goal attempts that fell just shy of settling in the net. Sather narrowly missed having a two-goal game as her shot attempt late in the first half sailed wide by inches.
