"I was sweating like no other, I have to ring out my jersey after the game," junior Andreana Pieper said.
SCSU's three game loss to Minnesota State, 21-30, 16-30, 20-30, came one day after their win in their NCC opener against North Dakota. The Huskies swept UND, 30-14, 30-16, 30-20.
"We couldn't maintain constancy against a good team," head volleyball coach Patricia Mickow said.
Mickow said beating UND was a big win. SCSU fed off the high energy brought from the crowd and matched the emotion against UND.
SCSU could not execute their offense against Minnesota State.
The first game saw players from both teams diving into the press box to try to make a saving dig. Each point was hard fought. SCSU had to fight back from being down in the game early.
Freshman Ashley Shields made a powerful kill bringing the Huskies close at 19-22. Mankato slammed the door following Shields kill, going on an 8-2 run finishing the first game.
MSU dominated game two as SCSU got a heavy dose of Stef Sandstrom to Amanda Beekman for the kill.
SCSU started slow in game three, but showed perseverance by playing hard the whole game. The closest the Huskies came was 11 to 14. SCSU did not have an answer to Beekman's kills.
"We were a completely different team," Pieper said about the differences the team played in the back-to-back games. "Attitude was up, but we didn't show up."
Pieper added 23 more digs to her career total. Leah Herrboldt holds the record with 1,365. Pieper is fourth on the list, passing former teammate Lindsey Gothe.
"The only way I know about the record is because people keep telling me," Pieper said. "I know I can get better every game."
The Huskies are going on the road during their next game at Bemidji State.
"Ball control and serving are the keys always for us coming into every game," Mickow said. "We have already played them, so we have more video to watch."
The Huskies lost to the Beavers three games to one earlier in the season at Halenbeck Hall.
