The SCSU football team has come out from their most recent loss to NCC opponent Western Washington needing a win.

This week the Huskies have the chance to get their first NCC win on Homecoming against Augustana.

SCSU started the season with three straight wins, followed by three straight losses. The Huskies were shut out in the first two losses.

This past game out west, the Huskies scored on their first two drives of the game, but lost in the last 30 seconds by way of a field goal.

"We have been practicing well, we have been prepared every week," head football coach Randy Hedberg said. "We just got to get a win."

The Huskies came out to practice Tuesday with one of their best practices of the year, junior defensive end Cale Pulczinski said.

"It was the first cold day of practice of the year," senior wide receiver Derek Sedin said. "The cold got everyone going."

Hedberg said the offense will need to run the ball, convert on third downs and have strong quarterback play to beat Augustana. Jon Quensel will be under center for the Huskies this week.

"I feel very confident with Q throwing me the ball," Sedin said. "We need to come out pumped with a confident swagger."

Sedin is eager to get in the endzone. Sedin last saw the endzone against UW-Whitewater, when he scored twice.

Hedberg felt the defense played well last week.

They only gave up one touchdown, but it was against a short field after a turnover. SCSU recorded seven sacks last game. Justin Vasquez and Derek Pawlitzke each recorded their first SCSU career sack.

Hedberg said the defense has been doing a good job eliminating the big play. The defense needs to pressure Augustana's quarterback and stop their big running back.

Pulczinski said they would need to contain their option run plays. "We will try to make the quarterback run to get some shots on him."

The homecoming game is an exciting game, but the coaching staff taking this like any other game. For the players, they get more excited to play. Pulczinski and Sedin have friends and family coming to see them play. Pulczinski added coming off a loss adds to the excitement.

Last year, Augustana beat the Huskies on a 51-yard touchdown pass on the last play of the game.

"There is no bad blood. It's just an ugly memory," Hedberg said.

The homecoming game is at is at Husky Stadium at 1 p.m.
