Walking at night may be safer than it has been in the past due to the new security system around campus. Over the summer, Public Safety installed 48 cameras in numerous areas of campus. While 28 of the cameras were installed in residential halls, there are also nine tied to blue lights, five in Q-Lot and six in the Miller Center.
Out of 50 major festivals celebrated by Nepalese, Dashain and Tihar are two of the biggest and most popular. Nepalese students at SCSU will be playing host to the Dashai and Tihar Celebration Oct. 20 to commemorate the festivals, which are determined by lunar calendar astrologers.
Prince Cedza Dlamini, the grandson of Nelson Mandela and King Sobhuza II of Swaziland, spoke yesterday in Ritsche Auditorium about the Millennium Development Goals the United Nation has put forth. "I did not come here as Nelson Mandela's grandson. I'm here as a youth activist," Dlamini said.
Domestic violence claimed the lives of 20 women and 12 children last year in Minnesota. Minnesotans can learn to prevent violence in their daily lives this month. National Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time to think about ways to decrease violence in words and actions.
Everyone knows laughter is the best medicine, which is why one campus organization takes it very seriously. The Laughter Club, one of SCSU's newest groups, encourages laughter not only as a means of entertainment, but also for its many health benefits. "When you laugh you kind of get an internal massage," said Jerry Wellik, special education professor and co-founder of the group.
