Errors in rugby story do a disservice to team, sport
Issue date: 10/18/07 Section: Opinions

I am writing because of the factual errors in the article posted 10-11-07, "Rugby forced to end season."
First, as a member of the Minnesota Rugby Union Board and past disciplinary chairman, I am in a position to know the circumstances behind the team's forfeits.
First, St. John's University had NOTHING to do with turning in the team. Their opponents had checked their paperwork for inaccuracies and asked for inquiry.
Second, it was not a one-player mistake. That would probably be forgiven. It is more than that.
Lastly, they were not the No. 1 seed, and no team is afraid to play another in Minnesota. Competition is why we play this sport.
I believe you have done a sloppy job of reporting, and have not helped a university team in anyway by printing an article without the facts.
