Pete's Place remains a choice restaurant for many in St. Cloud looking for a home-cooked meal.

There are not many local restaurants that are unique to St. Cloud.

Driving around town, students are most likely to notice big chain restaurants such as McDonald's and Taco Bell; therefore, not many students know about Pete's Place.

Pete's Place, owned by Pete Holt, is a quiet little restaurant located on Ninth Ave. N.

The diner is a great place to get breakfast and lunch, and is open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Sundays, when they open at 7 a.m.

The most noticeable and original aspect of Pete's Place was La Vona Sherarts' exhibit that was on display for seven years.

Hanging on the walls of the three rooms of the diner were the faces of customers and employees who had visited, eaten or worked at the restaurant.

Unfortunately, one of the most recent changes in Pete's Place is the décor. The walls are now completely blank, as the photographs had to be taken down.

This is what made the restaurant so unique and attractive.

People enjoyed coming in and seeing their photograph on the wall.

Sherarts ran out of room and decided to take down the exhibit.

"I am sorry the show ended, as it was about the people," Sherarts said. "It will be interesting to see what goes up there next."

The restaurant is now deciding on what the new vision will be.

With freshly painted walls to work with, customers are anxious to see what Holt will put up next.

Despite the recent changes, Pete's Place is still a very popular restaurant.

It is one of the few local diners left in St. Cloud and has many regular customers who support it.

"It's definitely a little hole in the wall restaurant, but the food is amazing, and not to mention, it's affordable," said Sam Schaefer, a customer at Pete's Place.

Another original aspect of Pete's Place is Holt's exercise program. In the back room of Pete's Place is Holt's own patented work out program with his own exercise machine. Customers can talk to or call Holt to set up an appointment.

The two reasons people come back to Pete's Place is the food and the atmosphere. The food definitely reminds one of a good home cooked meal, and there are many options to choose from whether it is breakfast or lunchtime. The atmosphere creates a cozy little diner where everyone can be comfortable and have an enjoyable time eating their meal.

Along with those two aspects are the friendly staff and the interesting customers. It is a great way to meet new people from around the area, and Pete's Place is just the place to do it. It is also a good place for someone to meet their friends over coffee and a big breakfast.

Pete's Place is also famous for their impromptu cribbage games. There are boards and cards set out for anyone to play at anytime of the day. People play cribbage all day and anyone who feels like they want to play is welcome to join in.

Pete's Place is definitely a restaurant everyone should experience at least once. The food and people one could meet are worth it.

"It's one of the few hidden treasures in St. Cloud," said Cole Sytsma, a first year student at St. Cloud State.
