Australian psychologist, author and entrepreneur Hugh Mackay once said, "No one welcomes chaos, but why crave stability and predictability?"

This week in sports was certainly not stable or predictable. I was craving both.

What a crazy mixed up world we live in.

The Rockies are going to the World Series, USC can't beat Stanford, Notre Dame can't win a game and Manny Ramirez says "It's not the end of the world."

It might not be the Apocalypse, but I'm keeping an eye out for the horsemen.

Let's take a look.

SCSU 27, MSU 13. Apparently the Huskies can beat an NCC powerhouse, yet can't beat bottom rung private colleges.

Stranger yet, for the first time this season, the Huskies did not turn the ball over.

Wayne State 2, SCSU 0. The Huskies could possibly have donated the only win Wayne State will see this season, in a weird game. The tempo seemed to be with the Huskies the whole game, and they even outshot the Wildcats.

Instead, they were treated with a fluky break away shot that was well placed enough to elude sophomore Elizabeth Kelly.

Then, when presented with at least two solid scoring opportunities later in the game, their shots didn't need to even be touched by the goaltender.

Just when I thought the weekend couldn't get anymore chaotic, I got a score update on the Friday women's hockey game.

SCSU 2, Wisconsin 1. This snapped a 32-game unbeaten streak that spanned two-seasons and included two championships. Wow.

In a weekend when nothing was predictable, another sucker punch came when I checked how the men did in Duluth.

A clean sweep by the Bulldogs made SCSU the victim of a team that should probably end the season in the bottom third of the WCHA.

Granted, with the way SCSU is playing (1-2-1, 0-2 WCHA), they should end in the bottom third, too.

My only bit of comfort was a Golden Gophers-North Dakota State score. 27-21 in favor of NDSU.

At least some things can stay predictable in this world. The Gophers still have no idea how to win games.

Stability may be boring, but it is comfortable. A world where the losers win and winners fall on their faces.

A sports world filled with commentators scratching their heads saying, "I have no idea what is happening."

I guess one prospect of the pure chaos that could be welcome is that maybe there is some hope for the Timberwolves.
