Football wins in busy sports weekend

Football
The SCSU football team (4-4, 1-4 NCC) took down the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks (4-4, 2-3) 27-13 Saturday afternoon in Mankato.
Junior quarterback Jon Quesnel went 12-for-21 for 109 yards and three touchdowns. First-year redshirt Fred Williams finished with five receptions and two touchdowns. Sophomore Rocky Horn caught the other touchdown pass.
Junior running back Michael Graham rushed the ball 27 times for 84 yards. The Huskies finished with 146 yards on the ground. Redshirt freshman Jake Machacek added 66 yards after missing time with a shoulder injury.
The Huskies did not turn the ball over in the game and created three fumbles. The Huskies got on the board first with a 34-yard field goal by Brian Cristan.
The Mavericks went three-and-out on the next possession, and the Huskies capitalized with a 10-play, 48-yard touchdown drive capped with an 11-yard pass to Williams to put the score at 10-0.
With the Mavericks pinned back in their own zone, SCSU Treg Swanson recovered a fumble by Maverick quarterback Ben King at the 10-yard line.
With the goal line only a short distance away, Quesnel found Horn in the end zone to put the Huskies up 17-0 going into halftime.
The Huskies would put the game out of reach with another touchdown by Williams, this one from 14 yards out.
Next up for the Huskies is the Hall-of-Fame game against Nebraska-Omaha at 1 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
Volleyball
The SCSU volleyball team (10-14, 2-5 NCC) came back from a two games to one match deficit to win a thriller in five games against North Dakota (5-16, 0-7 NCC).
Junior Emily Baldwin led the Huskies with 23 kills in the match. Freshman Ashley Shields earned 14 kills in the match. Junior Kelly Lynn Isaacson also had 12 kills, but added 12 digs to her stats. Andreana Pieper led the Huskies with 37 digs in the five games.
The Huskies next have a match at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Winona State. The Huskies defeated Winona State 3-1 earlier this year.
