For the first time since the 2004-05 season, No. 16 ranked SCSU (1-2-1 overall, 0-2-0 WCHA) found themselves on the losing side of a game at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC).

The Huskies trip to the DECC ended in total dismay, as the team was swept in their WCHA opener after a 2-1 loss Friday and a 4-2 setback Saturday.

Minnesota-Duluth (3-0-1 overall, 2-0-0 WCHA) has appeared to reverse its fortunes as a bumbling program.

"That was a team that was sick of being ninth place, and they kicked our rear ends," SCSU head coach Bob Motzko said.

They also seemed to have escaped the grip SCSU used to have on the team.

Bulldogs coach Steve Sandelin was just 8-21 versus the Huskies entering the weekend and had dropped nine of their past 10 against SCSU.

Possibly the worst realization to come from the weekend is the Huskies are struggling and need to find a way out of the disaster that is unfolding.

"We got to come in and get points every weekend. We cannot take anything for granted. We have got to come to play," senior Nate Dey said. "It is just a work ethic thing that we got to get back to real quick."

The team ended up responding a bit from an embarrassing performance Friday, but still suffered to gain a point Saturday.

"We faltered from what we were supposed to do, and I think it cost us," freshman forward Garrett Roe said.

Despite ending with the losing decision, there were a few things going for SCSU.

"There is times we played poorly, there is times we played well, we just didn't put three periods together, and it showed," Dey said.

After going 0-8 on the power play Friday, the Huskies got right to work on fixing it as they scored on their first power play attempt 4:06 into the game.

After moving the puck around handily, freshman Roe fed Dey just left of the crease, who tipped it in past Bulldogs goalie Alex Stalock.

Unfortunately for SCSU, the Huskies soon returned to their struggling state.
