MOSCOW, Russia - Aleksandr Pichushkin, a former supermarket worker nicknamed the "Bittsa Maniac," was convicted Wednesday of murdering 48 people in Moscow.
He was known to lure his victims into drinking alcohol before killing them.
He said he hoped to become Russia's most prolific serial killer and confessed to killing 63 people.
The 63 people were one shy of his goal, matching one murder for each of the 64 squares on a chessboard.
