In light of the events that occurred last Friday night during comedian "Loni Love" as part of Atwood After Dark, University Program Board (UPB) would like to issue a sincere apology.

We know some students felt personally attacked and singled out by the words and actions of Ms. Love, and we regret that deeply.

Members of UPB have listened carefully to the concerns of SCSU students who attended the event in order to fully understand the situation and its effects on students.

In order to ensure future performers meet the community standards at SCSU, we are taking steps to rectify the situation.

We have communicated directly with the agency responsible for booking Ms. Love and with Ms. Love herself.

Below is an apology to the Students of SCSU e-mailed to us by Ms. Love:

To SCSU Students:

It has been brought to my attention that some of the students at the October comedy show were upset and offended at some of the material I presented. It was not my intent to offend any person or group. Anything that was said at the show was for the sole intent to be humorous, but comedy is subjective, so my choice for your school was not considered humorous, and for that I do apologize.

Sincerely,

Loni Love

UPB has a screening process for all events brought to campus.

The material we viewed when approving Ms. Love as part of Atwood After Dark was not the same material Ms. Love used in her performance Friday night.

Because of artistic freedom and free speech issues, we were unable to control her words and actions once she was on stage.

As an SCSU student, your voice can be heard in a number of ways.

The nine UPB committees are open to all SCSU students.

We encourage you to join one and help make decisions on the events and performers who come to campus.

You may also e-mail us with comments, concerns or ideas by going to our Web site at www.stcloudstate.edu/upb or stop by our office located in Atwood 118.
