With a pouch full of pebbles and high hopes, the Huskies look to slay a 6-foot-4-inch, 215 pound giant.
That giant is Zach Miller, quarterback for the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Miller has more rushing yards than SCSU's leading rusher Michael Graham. He can also throw the ball. Last week, he racked up more than 200 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns.
"He is an extremely talented individual," SCSU head coach Randy Hedberg said. "We are going to have to stop him from running bootlegs, and our guys are going to have to make tackles."
The Huskies (4-4, 1-4 NCC) return home to face the undefeated University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO 7-0, 5-0 NCC).
UNO comes in ranked No. 3, No. 4 and No. 1 (depending on the poll). Even if the polls don't agree, the numbers don't lie.
"We have to play to our strengths," Hedberg said.
Brian McNeill leads the way for the NCC's best rushing attack. The Huskies have strength matched with strength, as they have the second best rush defense.
If strength matches strength in this bout, then weaknesses are also match-ups. SCSU's worst ranked passing offense is going against UNO's last ranked pass defense.
"We are going to play our game, run the ball and control the clock," Hedberg said.
SCSU continues to struggle to find the right play caller. Although junior Jon Quesnel led a comparably flawless game in Mankato, the Huskies have still struggled most of this season with switching out quarterbacks mid-game in nearly every game.
Last week, the Huskies upset Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU) playing with poise and confidence. The defense created three fumbles. The bigger surprise was that the offense stayed turnover free.
"(Quesnel) certainly made a case for himself to continue starting for us," Hedberg said. "As long as he puts us in a good position to put points on the board, he is our guy."
In beating the favored MSU, they maintained possession of the Traveling Training Kit. The kit represents the rivalry between the two schools and yearly goes to the winner of that game.
"It has been with us for five years now," Hedberg said. "It was a huge victory for us."
The Huskies go into Saturday largely viewed as underdogs against UNO.
Hedberg said he would like to see his team rise to the challenge.
"If we play flawlessly, I think we can stay very competitive with these guys," Hedberg said.
The Huskies are set to kick-off at 1 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
