Communication studies students at SCSU have earned the National Marrow Donor Collegiate Award for the success of their annual donor recruitment drives. The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) has awarded SCSU students and faculty for their display of "a high level of commitment in raising awareness, recruiting donors and saving work of the NMDP.
Where would SCSU students want to spend their time when they are not buried deep within the walls of the library? How about hitting the downtown scene, hanging out with roommates or just getting caught up from the weekend's lost sleep? Does running for city council come to mind? That is exactly what SCSU's own Adrian Nistler is busy doing.
The St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra's youth orchestra was launched Oct. 1, 2007, and has already been making strides in providing opportunities for junior and senior high school students to enhance their musical skills. Kara Schillerstrom, SCSU senior and assistant director of the youth program, said the youth orchestra welcomes students from more than 10 counties, including Stearns.
Last semester, 142 American Indian students enrolled at SCSU. "We would like to get to know every one of our returning students as well as our new first-year students," said Jim Knutson-Kolodzne, director of the American Indian Center. The purpose of the SCSU American Indian Center (AIC) is to respond to American Indian students' self-defined goals and needs, at the university and in the community.
