Save money: Ride a bike

What is it with parking around campus these days?

This isn't a complaint about the lack of spaces. Some people before me must have done that, as there is evidence with the new parking ramp set to be finished in summer 2008.

No, I'm talking about the clever park jobs with five feet to spare on either side.

Trust me, if you cruise up and down the streets and avenues near campus, you wouldn't have to go too far to find some double-parked cars.

On a cold day in December, this is as irritating as the driver in the passing lane clogging traffic while not even going the speed limit.

With the rising cost of gas…actually with the rising cost of everything (tuition, housing, food, etc.), I've been more and more inclined to ride my bicycle. Yeah, that's right, I said it, "my bicycle."

I'm accustomed to the dirty looks bikers usually get - like we have training wheels. Don't worry about me, I'll just revel in the fact that my own two legs are saving me money, no matter how little.

A tank of gas used to last me about a week - tops - but due to a little routine change, I can usually get away with two weeks or more.

The more and more I go into debt as a college student, it makes me realize that little money saving behaviors go a long way.

Other things you could do if you already don't: Turn the sink off when brushing your teeth, turn lights, televisions and other appliances off when not in use, air conditioning and heat can be used sparingly, shop wisely - especially at the grocery store, as it helps to plan your meals (p.s. I'm a good cook, wink wink!) and finally, stop text messaging so damn much!

If we all put our cell phones down for a minute, life would be a lot easier. And on that note, let's go ride a bike!
