SCSU President Earl Potter spent Thanksgiving at Alnwick castle with SCSU students. The students are staying there as part of a study abroad program.

The study abroad students with the fall 2007 program feasted with the university President Earl Potter and his wife, Christine, Thanksgiving evening.

A full Thanksgiving dinner complete with turkey and all the fixings were enjoyed as a home away from home delight.

Some family members of the students traveled form the United States to England and joined the meal as well.

The students shared stories of their travels and discussed the programs impact on their lives.

Potter, from New England, delivered a speech saying how important the study abroad programs were to individuals and their futures and to a global community.

He will be visiting a few other countries that host study abroad programs ,one of which is Chile.

McKenzie McCabe, 19, and a student of UMD studying alongside SCSU students, said seeing the president's sincere interest in the program impressed her.

McCabe is a graphic design major and decided to study abroad with SCSU because the program in Alnwick had more to offer than the UMD program.

The president said it is important to keep these programs running strong, especially with the recent nomination of St Cloud being named one of the top places to live in the world. (The city was chosen second in the contest.)

Potter said he hopes that throughout his term he can bring the university to become more involved with the local community.

The following day, Potter and his wife joined the students on their field trip to York and were given a tour around the ancient city by one of the British staff members.

York is a city dating back from more than 2,000 years of British history.
