Accreditation sparks department

Since 1980, the art department at SCSU has prided itself on being one of the four schools in Minnesota that is nationally accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Every 10 years the department goes through an accreditation process set up by NASAD.

'American Gladiators' lights up NBC

"American Gladiators" has been a cult classic for many years after the show ended its seven-season run in 1995. To the rejoice of many, NBC has brought the show back for a new generation to enjoy. Even though the classic names like Laser, Turbo and Zap have been changed, the show is essentially the same of what made the show from my childhood one of the best on television.

Indie film 'Juno' hits it big

"Juno" is the epitome of a heartwarming, sarcastic and youthful film. It's filled with a humor that, although sometimes juvenile, is genuinely sincere and always enjoyable. The script, written by former Minnesota resident Diablo Cody, not only captures the language of youth during the last few years, but also tells its story in a more contemporary and realistic style.

Burton strikes again with 'Sweeney Todd' movie

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton have certainly had an interesting mix of movies together. In their various collaborations over the years, Depp and Burton have combined to create either sheer brilliance ("Edward Scissorhands," "Ed Wood") or questionable oddities ("Corpse Bride," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory").

Soso fuses poetic talent with iconic sounds

The evolution of the new indie hip hop scene has thrown another curve ball with the atmospheric and melodic new album by Canadian songwriter soso. Soso's new album, "Tinfoil on the Windows" weaves the listener through mellow, but interesting musicianship with lyrics and vocals telling tales of personal observations on society and interpersonal relationships.
