Alan Greenspan said earlier in the month that the U.S. economy is probably in a recession right now or it is about to slide into one.

The housing and job market have also been working in a similar fashion.

These and many other problems do not seem to affect us college students right now, as we sit in school and think about how we can get all our school work done so we can go out and have fun on the weekends.

But whether you are graduating in May or have just begun your first semester of college, the next 10 days could have an immense effect on your future.

While no one person can solve all the problems our country is facing, there is one thing every young adult can do to help improve and shape the future of America.

They can get out and vote.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, Minnesota and 21 other states will conduct their precinct caucuses.

For anyone who does not know, a caucus is basically a meeting of the party leaders to select who they want to represent their party in the 2008 presidential election.

The people of Minnesota, and most importantly the younger generations, have the opportunity to make their voices heard and sway the outcome.

The caucus gives Generation X and first timers from Generation Z the opportunity to vote on who they want to run for president in November.

Voting for the caucuses will not necessarily put their favorite candidate into the White House, but it will help put them into the ring to contend for the presidency.

More than any other state in the country, 69 percent of Minnesotans under the age of 30 voted at the caucus in 2004.

While it might be a hard act to follow, it is something the younger generations of Minnesota need to shoot for.

While there is no clear front runner for any party at this point, it is a great opportunity for us bright individuals to put our two cents in.

But before we can do that, we must educate ourselves.

If you're capable of voting and have not looked into the presidential race by now, it is not a completely hopeless cause.
