Record enrollment numbers increase

After the 10th day of classes, enrollment figures are the highest SCSU has seen. "Recruitment without well thought and well planned retention strategies and interventions is meaning less," said Mahmoud Saffari, associate vice president for enrollment management.

Campus construction in full swing

Trivia Weekend '08

Vote Trivia '08 began at 5 p.m. Friday and kept triviaholics glued to their radios for 50 hours of non-stop trivia, which concluded at 7 p.m. Sunday. This year, 78 teams participated, 38 from the St. Cloud area. The participant farthest from St. Cloud was a soldier in Iraq who played on a team via the Internet.

The English language can be difficult to comprehend. The small and seemingly simple word "set" has 194 different meanings in the dictionary. A single worldly definition for swastika is also hard to decipher. While it is one of the most recognized symbols around the globe, there are both a number of denotative and connotative meanings to the word.

House passes stimulus

The House of Representatives and the Senate compromised and passed a $167 billion stimulus bill that will send out tax rebate checks of $300 to $1,200. The bill calls for a one-time tax rebate to go to individuals making less than $75,000 and married couples making less than $150,000.

Speed friending new way to meet people

Feeling glum at the prospect of spending Valentine's Day alone? Well there's a new way to spend Valentine's Day finding love and friendship. Speed friending, an event put on by Shoemaker Hall Community Council, is taking place from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the Atwood Memorial Center Ballroom and is open to everyone, free of cost.
