Minnesota-State Mankato had the remedy to shut down the Huskies offense - hold senior guard Dave Dreas to single digits.

MSU held Dreas to six points off 1-for-15 shooting and 0-for-7 from behind the arc in SCSU's 87-75 loss. MSU put 6'3" Preston Whitaker, from St. Cloud Apollo, on Dreas for most of the game.

The Huskies Dusty Wabiszewski picked up the slack on the offensive end, scoring a career high 26 points and playing in all 40 minutes of the game. Wabiszewski also had six steals.

"Tonight it was good to see a three-pointer go down. I have been on a little bit of a cold streak outside," Wabiszewski said. "When you drive to Dave's side it opens up that side of the court because his guy is going to stick on him. He makes the game a little easier."

"Dusty is the guy that runs the show for us. When he plays like that we have a chance to win," head coach Kevin Schlagel said.

Neither team could go on a run or break away from the other team in the first half. There were 14 ties and 12 lead changes. The Huskies largest lead was three points, which came from Matt Schneck as he converted on a three-point play at the 9:10 mark.

Brett Carmichael had a big first half with 11 of his 16 points. Most of his buckets came off put backs on the offensive boards.

"I was just being active," Carmichael said. "Rebounding and running the floor is the strong part of my game. Those put backs are the type of buckets I need to get."

"Brett is a hustle guy that does all of the little things. When he's active, he's very good, but sometimes he has the tendency to stand," Schlagel said. "If he plays like he did today, Brett's very good on the court."

The Huskies went into half time tied at 39.

MSU started the second half with a 7-2 run, the first run of the game. SCSU fought back within four after a Schneck jumper, which made it 48-44.

Mankato pushed the SCSU deficit up to nine with two consecutive scoring possessions. The Huskies countered with a Wabiszewski three and a Carmichael lay-up on their next two possessions.

Mankato then went on a 7-0 run pushing Maverick lead to double digits. The Huskies didn't recover after that.

It very physical and the refs were calling the game tight. There were 50 fouls called between the two teams. Coach Schlagel said MSU physically beat them in their last game, but the team met that challenge in this game.

The Huskies fall to 16-7 overall and 4-4 in NCC play.
