Men's Hockey
SCSU men's hockey team (12-13-3, 7-11-2 WCHA) earned a split on the road against conference leading No. 4 Colorado College (21-8-1, 16-5-1 WCHA) 3-5 and 4-2 this weekend in Colorado Springs.
Friday's 3-5 defeat featured Ryan Lasch with two goals and an assist. Andreas Nodl scored the other goal and added an assist for the Huskies. Matt Stephenson, Aaron Brocklehurst, Matt Hartman and Nate Dey all recorded assists.
Goaltender Jase Weslosky made 26 saves in the contest.
Lasch's three-point performance moves him to fifth in the country in scoring.
The Huskies would rebound Saturday night with a 4-2 victory.
Garrett Roe scored two goals in the contest, but was upstaged by the playmaking ability of Hartman, who assisted on all four goals.
Nodl added a goal and an assist. David Carlisle also scored, giving him his first goal at SCSU.
The split moves SCSU to 17th in the Pairwise ranking, a ranking system that mimics the NCAA selection criteria for the national tournament.
The Huskies next test is a travel to the north for a battle with Alaska-Anchorage.
Women's Hockey
SCSU women's hockey (16-9-5, 11-9-4 WCHA) tied 2-2 Friday, while winning 2-1 Saturday against North Dakota (4-23-5, 4-19-3 WCHA).
Danielle Hirsch scored her first career goal for the Huskies. Meghan Pezon also added a goal. Stacy Dey, Holly Roberts and Brittni Kuyper all had assists.
Goaltender Kendall Newell made 24 saves in the tie.
Saturday's 2-1 victory bought North Dakota to 0-6-1 on their home ice.
Megan McCarthy scored the game winning goal with about seven minutes left to go in the game.
Newell had a relatively easy night in net, only facing nine shots.
Amy Currier assisted McCarthy's game winner. Sammy Nixon also charted a goal late in the first period.
The three-point weekend extends the Huskies lead in the battle for fourth place over Minnesota State by seven points. The top four teams in the WCHA get home ice in the first round of the playoffs.
