The Student Government Association (SGA) executive committee asked its president, Nathan Scheiber, for his resignation Dec. 4, a motion Scheiber declined to acknowledge.

Since the request was made, the SGA has spent several hours debating Scheiber's presidency.

The SGA has also had difficulties interpreting its constitution to resolve the issue.

A motion was made to suspend Scheiber, which was not supported by the senators but enforced by the executive committee.

According to Scheiber, he was suspended from his position until he agreed to resign. His only option for lifting the suspension was to resign.

Scheiber presented an appeal Feb. 4 to the executive committee in the Atwood Union Room, in regard to his SGA membership eligibility.

SGA ruled on the appeal in Scheiber's favor and last week he was reinstated as president.

At last Thursday's SGA meeting a number of members of the executive committee resigned from their positions in the SGA, including vice president Jesse Boyer.

Boyer declined to comment for this article, did not deliver a resignation speech to the SGA, and did not give a public statement explaining his decision to resign.

Nick Allen, a past member of the executive committee, resigned Thursday as well and stated a number of reasons for his resignation.

"This is mostly because of school, I mean I'm taking 18 credits and I need to focus on getting on the dean's list for my own career," Allen said to the SGA during open gallery. "Other than that, it's just the organizational factors that we've been going through. I think this organization needs to raise its standards to a 3.0 GPA to be a member as well as (require) past leadership experience."

Each resignation speech expressed the importance of the SGA moving forward and accomplishing goals during the rest of the school year.

Scheiber also expressed the importance of the organization making progress.

"I think there's a feeling right now that the organization has stalled," Scheiber said. "There's no legitimate rationale to have me be removed. I've said from the beginning I wish that I had done something wrong that it was blatantly obvious that I was in violation so that I could resign and put it behind me, but that's not the case. I don't feel that anyone in the organization has proven that removing me was the solution, the problems still exist."

After the resignation speeches, SGA spent the rest of Thursday night's meeting moving on to important issues that needed to be addressed at SCSU including funding requests by student organizations and the appointment of a new vice president.

Scheiber and the SGA have decided to appoint students to fill the executive committee chairs until elections will are conducted in April for the next fiscal year.

Currently, the only executive committee chair filled is the vice president.
