This past weekend sophomore Alexandra Pafko put two in the win column for Huskies with two timely kicks.
Last weekend the Huskies took on the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs where Pafko and junior Gabrielle Najera led the Huskies in the game, winning the contest 2-1.
Then taking on the No. 7 nationally ranked Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks, sophomore Chelsey Permenter connected with forward junior Lindsey Sather streaking down the field. Sather met up with Pafko with a perfect cross for another game winner by Pafko.
“We have had great improvement,” said head coach Rebecca Heiberger. “We are hanging on to the ball, we have confidence out there and the girls know what it is like to reach their potential and playing with a booster to beat a Mankato caliber team. From here on out we are not accepting anything less.
“We want to follow up with two more win to keep up in the conference. Only Winona State, Minnesota Duluth and Mary are the other teams that undefeated in conference play.”
The Huskies will be staying home this weekend, taking on Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons (1-3 NSIC, 4-4-1 overall) on Friday.
“They are a very physical team,” Heiberger said. “They have been up and down but they are a quality squad. We need to bring our ‘A’ game against them. We scored three goals on them last year with three corners. We want to set ourselves up and hopefully get some opportunities to get some corners.”
The Huskies will be also hosting the University of Minnesota, Crookston (0-4-0 NSIC, 2-7-1 overall) on Sunday.
"Crookston is holding their own,” Heiberger said. “They have a new coach and all the players are looking to prove themselves.
“Everybody is expected to win at home. After these two home games we have four away games. To lose will make it much harder, it is vital we win if we want a shot at making the NCAA tournament.”
With the cold weather approaching the Huskies have to prepare for all weather situations that may happen.
“We practice in the morning when it is really cold,” Heiberger said. “We will be okay playing when it gets colder.”
Husky Stadium will be hosting the Huskies taking on Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons at 3 p.m. on Friday. The University of Minnesota, Crookston will be playing the Huskies at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
