Minnesota Wild come to St. Cloud

Minnesota Wild come to St. Cloud

Leg one of the Minnesota Wild Road Tour skated into St. Cloud on Wednesday.

From noon to 1 p.m people could meet Minnesota Wild players, former players and celebrities. It took place at the Municipal Athletic Complex (MAC) on the north side of town.

Crowds gathered to see Derek Boogaard, John Scott, Dan Terhaar and Mike Greenlay and get autographs and pictures with them.

Boogaard is a left wing enforcer for the Wild. He is nicknamed “The Boogeyman” and hails from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. His 6 foot 8 inch frame and at 282 pound makes him perfect for smashing players into the boards and delivering painful blows.

John Scott is a Wild defenseman from St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Another bruiser at 6 foot 8 and 258 pounds, Scott also is a heavy hitter for the Wild. Scott had 21 penalty minutes, one assist and one point for the Wild last season.

The announcing team of Dan Terhaar and Mike Greenlay were also at the MAC Wednesday.

Terhaar is a Wild announcer and is currently entering his second season. Previously he announced for the Minnesota Golden Gopher hockey team and SCSU’s hockey team as well. Terhaar is also the sports director at the WCCO radio station according to foxsports.com.

According to foxsports.com Greenlay announces play-by-play right along with Terhaar. Greenlay has been doing Wild play-by-play for three years and previously was an analyst for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Greenlay, from Brazil, played most of his goaltending career in minor league hockey, but played briefly with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League.

The event allowed dedicated Minnesota Wild hockey fans to be up close and personal with the bruisers of the Wild team, and talk to play-by-play analysts about how they do their stuff.

In other Wild news, the NHL draft took place in Quebec, Canada this past week. The Wild, with their no. 16 pick took Eden Prairie High School defensemen and Minnesota’s Mr. Hockey, Nick Leddy. The Wild got the pick and two additional later round picks from the New York Islanders for the Wild’s no. 12 pick. New Wild head coach Todd Richards is excited to see the youngster blossom and hopefully join the team in a couple of years according to the www.minnesotawild.com.
