Roe notches career point 100 against Michigan Tech

Junior center Garrett Roe became only the twenty-first Husky to score 100 career points Saturday.

Roe recorded two assists in the 3-1 SCSU victory, giving him six on the season. He is also leading SCSU with eight points.

SCSU split the weekend series after losing to Michigan Tech 3-1 Friday.

After the weekend SCSU is now 3-3-2 on the season 2-1-1 in the WCHA.

Friday

Neither team scored in the first period Friday the first goal came from Michigan Tech’s John Kivisto who went unassisted past SCSU’s first-year goalie Mike Lee.

Roe even the score for the Huskies later in the period, scoring his second goal on the season. Assists came from Tony Mosey and Taylor Johnson.

SCSU’s third period troubles continued as they gave up two goals to Michigan Tech, the game winner coming as Michigan Tech was short handed.

Michigan Tech’s Brett Olson scored the goal, his fourth of the season.

The last Michigan Tech goal came from on an empty net at the end of the game from Alex MacLeod.

SCSU goalie Mike Lee dropped to 1-2-2 on the season saving 20 of 22 Michigan Tech shots in the loss.

Neither team took advantage of power plays. SCSU went 0-5 on power plays and Michigan Tech went 0-3.

Saturday

SCSU bounced back from another third period breakdown on Saturday defeating Michigan Tech 3-1.

Tony Mosey scored his third goal on the power play to give SCSU a 1-0 lead. Assists on the play went to Sam Zabkowicz and Roe.

The assist was point 100 for Roe in his career.

The SCSU lead became 2-0 before the first period ended as Drew LeBlanc passed a shot to Nick Oslund for his first goal of the season.

Michigan Tech tied the game in the second period when Malcolm Gwilliam scored his fifth goal of the season.

SCSU would pad their lead with a Brian Volpei goal. Volpei took a Garrett Roe pass and turned it into an SCSU goal.

SCSU held Michigan Tech to only 18 shots, while taking 30 against Michigan Tech goaltender Kevin Genoe, who had 27 saves.

Junior Dan Dunn took over goaltender duties in the game and stopped 17 of Michigan Tech’s 18 shots.

With the victory Dunn improved to 2-1 on the season and 2-0 in the WCHA.

SCSU is off next weekend and their next game will be at North Dakota on Nov. 13-14 in Bismarck.

North Dakota is 4-1-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in the WCHA and were ranked as high as number two in some polls nationally before this weekend.
