The women of the Huskies Swimming and Diving team traveled to Moorhead to take on the Dragons in two duals this weekend.
They won 11 events each day winning both duals. They swam 13 events on Friday and 16 Saturday.
Of note for the Huskies on Friday was first place finisher Dayna Nellis who broke Moorhead’s pool record in the 1650 free event with a time of 18:16.78.
First year swimmer Heather Crandall also set a pool record in the 500 free touching the wall at 5:16.43, the victory was her first in her college career.
Also capturing first place finishes on Friday were the 400-yard medley relay team consisting of: seniors Cathy Haen and Katie Brueggemann, sophomore Kirsten Koetter and first year Ali Domeier.
Senior captain Alisha Blaydes dominated the 200 free with a time of 2:00.04. Koetter won the 50-yard butterfly.
The diving team was led by sophomore Allison Tracy who took first in the three-meter, with a score of 221.15.
Saturday the Huskies did just as well taking 11 of the 16 events.
Nellis won the 1000 free event clocking in at 11:02.10.
The same team who won the 400-yard medley Friday also took the 200-yard relay home on Saturday.
Blades took home another 200 free victory with the same time of 2:00.04.
Kirsten Koetter took first in the 100 butterfly with at time of 1:00.25.
Blades and Koetter each participated in three victories for the Huskies.
Blades won the 200 free, the 200-medley relay and 100 free.
Koetter’s victories came from the 100 and 50 –yard butterflies and the 200 medley.
The Huskies do not hit the pool again until Oct. 31 when the have a home meet against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
However, diving does participate in an event against Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Oct. 30.
Coach Jeff Hegle’s team won the NSIC last season and the Huskies womens team set five team records at the NCAA tournament last season.
The men and women’s team sent 20 swimmers, a school record to the NCAA tournament last year.
