The Huskies soccer team came away this weekend with what they have not seen yet this season.

The Huskies traveled to Winona State on Saturday (8-1 NSIC, 11-4) to take on the team that was tied for second place in the NSIC with SCSU.

The Huskies’ loss to the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (9-1 NSIC, 11-2-1) put them from first to second in the standings. The Huskies lost 1-0 to the No. 1 team in the conference last Sunday.

With the Huskies finishing their second road weekend in a row, the Huskies experienced their first back-to-back losses of the season.

Traveling to Maxwell Field in Winona, the Huskies walked off the bus leaving their competitiveness behind them.

“It was a highly anticipated game,” said head coach Rebecca Heiberger. “We played a better team in the conference. We started the game the way we are able to play, but it didn’t last the whole game.”

The Warriors scored the first goal of the game at the 32:06 mark. Lauren Sturdivant, NSIC offensive player of the week, scored from a pass from Melissa Sellier.

The Warriors had two more goals in the second to freeze the Huskies who put up ten shots with three on goal. Junior Lindsey Sather, sophomore Chelsey Permenter and sophomore Laura Moline each had one of the shots on goal. Elizabeth Kelly had five saves on the day.

“We didn’t play well against Winona,” Heiberger said. “We can play with the best of the best. We had an off weekend.”

After the first ever consecutive losses for the Huskies this season, the Huskies traveled to Fayette, Iowa to take on the Upper Iowa Peacocks.

“Defense was pretty solid out there,” Heiberger said. “We got the shut out. We had a hard time connecting passes. We could have and should have won.”

The Huskies tied the Peacocks 0-0 lasting through double overtime. The Huskies seventh recorded shutout of the season.

Kelly took to the net again for the Huskies making 11 saves against the 17 Peacocks’ shots.

The Huskies had 16 total shots. Permenter had a team-high five shot in the game with two on goal.

“We are going to put together some difficult practices this week,” Heiberger said. “They will be some mentally and physically grueling practices to snap the girls back to the high-level of play. We have to find a way to score.”

SCSU will play at home next weekend on Saturday against Northern State at 11 a.m.

SCSU will honor their seniors at Husky Stadium on Sunday against University of Mary at 1 p.m. for the last home regular season game. Seniors include Kaitlin Kelly, Elizabeth Kelly, Jenn Clifford and Chelsey Scheller.
