California mother feeds marijuana to her eight-year-old son

California judge Judge Colleen Nichols threw out a petition Tuesday which requested a child be removed from his home.

The mother, whose name is not being released, has been giving marijuana treatments to her mentally disturbed son after conventional treatments failed. The boy, who suffers from attention deficit disorder, bipolar disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, among other mental illnesses, is given the “medicine” in the form of muffins on a regular basis.

Child Protective Services petitioned to get him taken out of his mother’s care in July. They accused her of being an unfit mother and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The petition failed and although the boy is still receiving doses of marijuana, the mother is required to seek treatment from a pediatrician every six months.

Forty-seven New Jersey teachers jailed after defying a judge’s order

Members of the Middleton Township Education Association, a teachers’ union, went on strike Nov. 29 after negotiations for a new contract failed. They were sent to jail after defying a judge’s back-to-work order.

Talks between the school board and the teachers’ union resumed Wednesday night. They will discuss the proposal of raised health insurance costs for teachers. Students hope the conflict will be resolved soon. Classes have been cancelled since the strike began.
